Webinar: Dental Practice Settings and Job Satisfaction
Big or small, there are pros and cons to working in various dental practice settings, and dentists measure their career satisfaction in different ways.
In a webinar recorded in August — now available here — researchers from the University of Illinois at Chicago and the ADA Health Policy Institute presented their findings on how dentists view different aspects of solo, small group, and large group practice.
They found that dentists working in small group settings reported the highest overall career satisfaction. Read their article in this month’s JADA. (PDF)
Additionally, dentists working in large group settings reported more satisfaction with income and benefits than dentists in solo practice, as well as less stress.
In a related study, the researchers compare career satisfaction in two types of large group practices: those affiliated with a dental management organization, commonly known as DSOs, and those completely owned and operated by dentists. The webinar was led by Anthony T. LoSasso, Ph.D., professor, Division of Health Policy and Administration, School of Public Health, University of Illinois at Chicago.
