A free ADA webinar scheduled for late September is tied to rising oral cancer rates due to human papillomavirus and the role that dentists can play in its prevention and promotion of the HPV vaccine.
Say What? Science and Skills for Talking About the HPV Vaccine will stream Sept. 25 from noon to 1 p.m. Central time.
The webinar, which is presented by the ADA’s Council on Advocacy for Access and Prevention, provides one hour of continuing education credit.
Dentists will learn the basics of the HPV vaccine, how to initiate conversation with their patients, answer difficult questions and get comfortable developing effective messaging techniques.
The presenters are Robin Wright, Ph.D., and Reva Bhushan, Ph.D.
Dr. Wright is the director of the Research and Policy Center of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She is the author of over 70 publications, including the book, “Tough Questions, Great Answers: Responding to Patient Concerns about Today’s Dentistry,” published in three languages. She holds a doctorate in health care communication from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Dr. Bhushan is the manager of evidence-based dentistry for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and is leading the academy on HPV vaccination education and awareness. She received her doctorate in microbiology and immunology from the State University of New York at Buffalo and completed her post-doctoral training at the National Institutes of Health and U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
