A free Nov. 8 ADA webinar, “GPS Managing Finances Webinar: Making More Dollars and Sense Through Strategic Practice Planning,” will focus on how dentists can create an easy-to-follow strategic practice development and business plan to improve the practice’s bottom line. The program is scheduled from noon-1 p.m. CDT.

Sponsored by the Council on Dental Practice, this program recaps some of the information available in the Guidelines for Practice Success module on Managing Finances and is the sixth in a series of webinars based on content from GPS modules. The complete GPS module on Managing Finances, which features more than 40 articles and original resources, can be accessed at That webpage also includes links to GPS modules on Managing Patients, Managing Marketing, Managing the Dental Team and Managing the Regulatory Environment. Webinars on other GPS topics are also available for on-demand streaming.

“The Council on Dental Practice created and continues to promote the Guidelines for Practice Success program because  members want help managing the non-clinical aspects of their practices,” said Dr. Craig Ratner, chair of the Council on Dental Practice. “This webinar will lead dentists through some easy-to-implement financial systems that can help them increase critical aspects of their practice like new patient inquiries, production, revenue and profitability.”

Much of the program will cover how to design a strategic plan that includes important business and legal issues.

The objectives of the course are for dentists to be able to:

  • Identify the pros and cons of solo versus group practice forms of ownership.
  • Use effective business, financial and operating systems to minimize stress.
  • Manage risks of all types associated with the profession of dentistry.

William P. Prescott, an attorney who has spent more than 30 years supporting dentists, will present the webinar. Dr. Pamela Porembski, director of the ADA Council on Dental Practice, will moderate the program.
