Applicants sought for 2018-19 ADA Institute for Diversity in Leadership

By | January 11, 2018

The American Dental Association Institute for Diversity in Leadership is accepting applications through March 16 for its 2018-19 class.

The Institute is designed to provide education and leadership skills to dentists who are members of racial, ethnic and/or gender groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in leadership roles within the profession and their communities.

Selected applicants will attend three leadership education sessions conducted by faculty from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management and Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business at ADA Headquarters in Chicago. Participants will be reimbursed for their hotel and travel expenses.

During their program year, the Institute class members will develop their leadership abilities through faculty seminars and experience designing and leading projects for their dental associations or other community organizations. The 2017-18 class, which was announced in November 2017, include projects advocating for patients with special needs; providing support for Native American high school students; improving oral health and access to care for children in California; raising awareness among the general public and health care professionals about a preventive approach to the opioid epidemic; and creating a model that provides nutritional counseling.

Since 2003, nearly 200 dentists have been enrolled in the program. Institute alumni have since served as volunteer leaders at the local, state and national levels of the ADA, and other dental associations and service organizations.

The Institute for Diversity in Leadership is made possible by generous support from Henry Schein Dental and Procter & Gamble.
