Background and Purpose. The Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) conducts dental practice analyses every five years as a part of its ongoing validity research program. In 2016, the JCNDE is scheduled to conduct practice analysis activities to help establish the test content of the National Board Dental Examination Part II (NBDE Part II). As part of this effort, an ad hoc panel of subject matter experts will be convened to review preliminary test specifications for the NBDE Part II, based on practice analysis survey findings. The JCNDE requests nominations from communities of interest concerning individuals qualified to serve on this important panel.

Meeting Dates. The panel will meet November 7 and November 8, 2016.
Panel Activity. Panelists will participate in a facilitated process to help establish the NBDE Part II test specifications. Subsequent to activity training, panel members will use a two-dimensional matrix to distribute the 500 NBDE Part II questions across 56 clinical content areas to a list of cognitive skills areas measured by the current Part II examination. The number of questions devoted to specific cognitive skills areas could be increased, decreased, or kept the same, depending on panel judgments and the outcomes from the practice analysis.
