ADA weighs in on Affordable Care Act repeal

By | January 19, 2017

Washington — As the new Congress considers replacement legislation for the Affordable Care Act, the Association on Jan. 13 shared its priorities with the new administration, according to ADA News.

checklistIn a letter to Ways and Means Committee Chair Kevin Brady, R-Texas, and Ranking Member Richard Neal, D-Mass., ADA President Gary L. Roberts and Executive Director Kathleen T. O’Loughlin stressed that “any effort to replace the existing law should not result in Americans losing dental coverage gained under the ACA and should emphasize value while supporting the doctor-patient relationship, ensure a competitive insurance marketplace, and safeguard the most vulnerable among us who rely on Medicaid for their health coverage.”

They also noted that ADA members have “many roles in the health care system as health care professionals, small business owners and consumers.”

The Association also highlighted the following:

  • Any changes made that affect the insurance market should “foster competition while ensuring consumers can purchase high-quality, comprehensive oral health coverage that includes a separate dental deductible, first-dollar coverage for preventive services, and limits patient out-of-pocket costs.”
  • Any changes to Medicaid should “preserve the existing requirement for oral health services for children up to age 21 and increase access to oral health services for low-income adults, vulnerable elders and low-income pregnant women.”
  • With regards to insurance, consumers deserve greater plan transparency “so that they can be empowered to make personally-responsible decisions about their healthcare.”

The affordable care act seems to be providing alternative or some coverage when it comes to dental, but it would interesting to note what sort of dental coverage it would be making from dentistry point of view.
